Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, talk say this arrangement no mean say government don bring fuel subsidy back. Im say na to sell petrol at the cost price.

Oyedele talk say, “We dey give discount on petrol wey NNPC Limited dey sell for the next 30 days, as first step. We go first consider public transport operators across Nigeria.

“So, no be subsidy. Government just dey say make we sell petrol give una at the price wey e cost us.”

NDC Question the 30-Day Discount

NDC describe the policy as something wey no go solve the real problem and call am “Greek gift”, meaning gift wey fit get hidden intention.

The party argue say one month discount no go solve the plenty economic problems wey removal of fuel subsidy cause.

NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, talk say, “Nigerians no be pipo wey anybody fit deceive.”

Im ask wetin go happen to Nigerians wey lose their jobs or businesses because fuel price and cost of running business don go up.

Director also question whether NNPC get enough filling stations to serve more than 200 million Nigerians.

Im warn say if government concentrate cheaper petrol for only some filling stations, e fit cause traffic jam and safety wahala.

Director talk say, “The attempt to bring fuel subsidy back through backdoor no only get bad intention, e also show say government don dey struggle and dey ready to hold anything wey fit help am survive.”

“Now, all of a sudden, discount on petrol don become possible.

“So, wetin change?” na im e ask.

Federal Government Propose ₦1,350 Maximum Landing Cost for Petrol

Government don also propose say the landing cost or ex-gantry price of petrol no suppose pass ₦1,350 per litre.

Oyedele talk say the plan na to prevent changes for global oil prices and exchange rate from causing sudden increase for filling stations.

But this no mean say petrol go necessarily sell for ₦1,350 per litre for filling stations.

Oyedele talk say, “Petrol price for filling stations no suppose dey change every time global crude oil price or exchange rate change.”

Under the proposal, petrol refiners and importers go first carry any cost wey pass the ₦1,350 limit. Dem go recover the difference later when market conditions improve.

Government talk say this arrangement no be subsidy and e no be price control.

Government add say the fuel measures na part of bigger plan wey include more support for poor and vulnerable households, loans for small businesses, faster introduction of vehicles wey dey use Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), and plan to keep fuel reserve for emergency.
