Lagos Go Launch Measles–Rubella Vaccine for Pikin Dem, Target 10.5 Million Children

Lagos State Government don announce plan to roll out Measles and Rubella vaccination exercise to protect children and reduce sickness wey vaccine fit prevent across the state.

According to state officials, the vaccination campaign go run from January 20 to January 31, and e go target children between 9 and 14 years old for all parts of Lagos.

Dem talk say dem go carry the vaccine go schools, churches, mosques, primary healthcare centres and markets, make access easy for parents and guardians.

The State Immunisation Programme Coordinator, Matthew Akinpelu, explain say the exercise dey aimed to reduce infection rate and close immunity gap, especially for children wey never collect rubella vaccine before.

Akinpelu also stress say the campaign dey very important to prevent Congenital Rubella Syndrome (CRS) — serious condition wey fit affect babies if pregnant women catch rubella infection.

“Measles and rubella na highly contagious viral sickness,” Akinpelu talk. “Dem still dey cause serious public health wahala, especially for children and pregnant women.”

Health officials reveal say about 10,000 children dey born every year for Nigeria with Congenital Rubella Syndrome, wey represent roughly 31 percent of the global burden of the disease.

For Lagos alone, government estimate say the vaccination campaign go reach about 10.5 million eligible children, as part of efforts to strengthen public health and protect future generations.

Parents and caregivers for Lagos State don dey advised make dem allow their children collect the vaccine within the period, as health authorities say the exercise dey safe, free and important.
