Former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai don clarify say he never be friend to President Bola Tinubu, and the support wey he give Tinubu for 2023 election na party politics, no be personal loyalty.

For interview with Trust TV on Monday, El-Rufai talk say di idea say dem close na wrong perception.

“I was never Tinubu’s friend. We never get personal relationship like the one I had with General Buhari of blessed memory,” he explain.

El-Rufai say di reason wey he support Tinubu during di election na because of discussions within All Progressives Congress (APC) and political arrangement, no be friendship.

“I was approached by certain Islamic stakeholders from the southwest to support the emergence of a southwest Muslim presidential candidate… e no concern Tinubu; he just happen to benefit,” he add.

He further explain say as APC founder, he understand say power suppose rotate to south after Buhari’s eight-year term, and that principle guide him support.

“It na principle of mine to fight for my party candidate for every election, whether I like the candidate or not,” El-Rufai talk.

El-Rufai also highlight say governance philosophy between him and Tinubu’s government different, and their paths don separate since election.

“The philosophy of this government dey contrary to everything I’ve been taught as a Muslim, northerner, and Nigerian,” he tell the station.

His comments dey come amid speculations about political realignments ahead of 2027 elections and ongoing opposition campaigns against the current government.
