Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) don change timetable for Nigeria 2027 general election, as dem don move the presidential election come forward to Saturday, 16 January, and the governorship plus state assembly elections go hold on Saturday, 6 February.

INEC talk say dem need to adjust the dates after dem cancel the Electoral Act, 2022, and put the new Electoral Act, 2026 wey bring fresh legal timelines for pre-election and election activities.
The old timetable bin fix the presidential and National Assembly elections for 20 February 2027, and governorship plus state houses of assembly elections for 6 March 2027, under the former law.
“The commission don review and realign the schedule to make sure say everything follow the new legal framework,” the statement talk.
Under the new electoral calendar, presidential and National Assembly elections go hold on 16 January 2027, while governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections go happen on 6 February 2027.
Party primaries and dispute settlement processes go run from 23 April to 30 May 2026.
Campaign for presidential and National Assembly elections go start 19 August 2026, while campaign for state elections go begin 9 September 2026.
INEC tok say all campaigns must stop 24 hours before each election day, and warn political parties make dem strictly follow the timetable.
Apart from the national elections, the commission still adjust small for off-cycle poll, as dem move the Osun State Governorship Election from 8 August 2026 go 15 August 2026.
This change na one of the first major administrative actions after dem pass the Electoral Act, 2026.
