PenCom Talk Say Pension Delay for Federal Retirees Don End

PenCom (the National Pension Commission) don announce say the wahala wey retirees for government offices dey face with delayed pension don end.

According to dem, dem don put reforms and gbe the system beta, so now retirees dey collect their accrued pension rights on time.

Mr Ibrahim Buwai, wey be Head of Corporate Communications for PenCom, yan this one for interview with NAN for Abuja.

He talk say since July, PenCom don dey pay people their accrued rights as soon as dem retire — dem dey make sure retirees collect their money within the same month wen dem retire. 

Buwai add say dem don clear pension for November retirees already, and for those wey go retire December, the accrued rights go land before December 15 as dem don promise — so that dem go fit enjoy am before Christmas. 

He tok say the federal government don release ₦758 billion via bond to PenCom so dem go fit clear outstanding pension liabilities, including arrears wey don dey since 2007. 

Buwai talk say dis shows PenCom serious to make sure no retired person under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) suffer because their pension no dey come on time.

“With these measures for ground, delay for pension payment don comot for treasury-funded MDA retirees,” na so he talk. 

He still yan say PenCom dey work with stakeholders to solve one big gbege: some employers never remit their workers’ pension contributions to the Pension Fund Administrators (PFA).

To tackle this, PenCom DG, Ms Omolola Oloworaran, don sign MoU with ICPC (Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission). 

Under this MoU, ICPC fit recover pension money wey no don pay, make dem put am into workers’ Retirement Savings Accounts (RSA), and punish any employer wey dey default.
