Defence Minister, retired General Christopher Musa, don call for stronger partnership with other countries to help Nigeria fight insecurity. He talk this for the side of the 81st United Nations General Assembly for New York.
Musa say Nigeria security wahala don join together well well, so one country or one organisation no fit solve am alone. He say government, communities, international partners and private companies need to work together.
He say military and other security operations still dey important to protect Nigerians and defend the country land. But he add say military action alone no fit bring lasting peace and security.
According to the minister, Nigeria dey look for practical partnership with United Nations, African Union, ECOWAS, other countries, civil society groups, researchers and private companies to make the country security system stronger.
He say Federal Government dey also plan to recruit 22,000 more security personnel, rearrange some Army divisions and make security arrangements for states stronger. Government dey also look at plans for state police and forest guards.
Meanwhile, President Special Adviser on Homeland Security, retired Major-General Adeyinka Famadewa, say Nigeria dey change the way e dey handle security matters.
Famadewa say instead of just looking at the security equipment and people wey government get, the new plan go first identify the main security threats wey Nigeria dey face, check where the country no get enough strength and decide where government suppose put more resources.
He add say government dey work on a five-year plan to get important security equipment and improve Nigeria own ability to produce defence equipment locally.
