The dramatic scene play out for the chairman residence inside the Government Reserved Area (GRA) of Jalingo, the state capital, as eight armed men, some holding four AK-47 rifles, try to gain access to the compound. One of the suspects even cover him face with mask.
According to Saidu, he sight the gang through him window and quickly call the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for GRA division. The DPO respond fast with police officers and local vigilantes, forcing the assailants to flee the scene before dem fit do any harm.
“I saw them trying to jump in. I immediately called for help, and thank God, the police and vigilante came just in time,” Saidu tell journalists.
The chairman thank the security operatives for their fast response and beg the Taraba State Commissioner of Police to strengthen security around him home to avoid another attempt.
The Police Public Relations Officer for Taraba State, James Lashen, confirm the incident say investigation don start, even though no arrest don happen yet. He also urge residents of Jalingo and Taraba as a whole to stay alert and report any suspicious movement.
“We dey investigate the matter and we go update the public. But for now, we dey beg everybody to stay vigilant and report anything wey no clear to the police,” Lashen talk.
The attempted abduction don raise fresh concerns about security of public officials and general safety in Taraba State, especially as targeted attacks and criminal activities dey on the rise across different regions of the country.
