INEC Don Assure Nigerians Say Dem Go Remain Neutral As 100 Days Countdown To 2027 Election Don Start

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) don assure Nigerians and people for outside Nigeria say dem go remain neutral, ready to do their work well and protect the integrity of votes as Nigeria don enter the final 100 days countdown to the 2027 general election.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, give the assurance on Tuesday for world press conference and national stakeholders meeting wey dem hold to mark 100 days to the first voting day for the 2027 election. The meeting happen for Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre for Abuja.

Amupitan talk say INEC don move from planning stage enter execution stage. He say dem don start to produce election materials, dem dey check the quality of election technology, dem don finalise voter register for public display, and dem dey train election staff.

He talk say, “As we dey enter this 100-day countdown to the 2027 General Election, we dey assure Nigeria and the international community say we fully committed to neutrality, doing our work well and protecting the integrity of the ballot box.”

The INEC chairman describe the 100-day milestone as a call to action. He say the final stage of preparation go focus on delivering election wey meet standards for transparency, integrity and peace.

Amupitan say since he become INEC chairman for October 2025, the commission don conduct several off-cycle elections. Dem include governorship elections for Anambra, Ekiti and Osun states, Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections, plus several federal and state bye-elections.

He say reports from local and international observers show say the elections meet INEC standard for electoral integrity. He add say the elections also give the commission chance to test some improvements, including early deployment of ad hoc staff and sensitive election materials, better logistics and security arrangements wey intelligence guide.

INEC release the revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 election on February 26, 2026. The timetable get 14 important steps wey the law require. Amupitan say INEC don complete nine of the steps, and dem don turn the timetable into operational plan wey cover INEC headquarters, state offices, FCT and all 774 local government areas.

On funding, Amupitan acknowledge say Federal Government don release some of the money wey INEC suppose get by law. He say the money don help INEC meet payments to international vendors, fund important election technology and improve infrastructure.

But he still call on government to release the remaining funds quickly so INEC fit complete the rest of the election preparations without problem.

Amupitan say the three phases of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise bring 10,772,421 new voters, making the National Register of Voters reach about 103 million people.

INEC go display the voter register for public to check from October 9 to 15. Distribution of Permanent Voter Cards from the first phase go also start for local government centres on October 9.

The commission say 18 out of the 22 registered political parties submit 36 presidential and vice-presidential candidates.

INEC publish the final list of National Assembly candidates on September 12, while dem plan to publish the final list of candidates for governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections on October 10.

On election technology, Amupitan say production don reach advanced stage for 57,000 new Bimodal Voter Accreditation System devices, and some of the devices don already arrive.

He add say arrangements to print ballot papers and result sheets don near completion as INEC dey enter the final 100 days before the 2027 general election.
