Oga Ola Olukoyede wey be the Chairman of di Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) don raise alarm say Yahoo boys no just dey scam people again. Dem don carry di matter enter another level and e don turn big national disgrace.
As e dey talk for media briefing wey happen on Monday for EFCC head office for Abuja, Olukoyede talk say di wahala wey internet fraudsters dey cause don spoil Nigeria name for outside country.
“If you carry your green passport go abroad, immigration go dey look you one kind. Sometimes, dem go carry you go corner go search you well. All na because of how Yahoo boys don spoil our image,” he talk.
Di EFCC boss still talk say many of dis Yahoo boys no just dey do online scam. Dem don dey work with big politicians to clean stolen money. Some even dey do ritual, kidnapping and other criminal waka when scam no dey work.
“We arrest one 22-year-old boy wey never work for any company before, but in just 18 months, he don run over ₦5 billion,” Olukoyede reveal. “Na politician money dem dey use am wash. Dem go open crypto wallet, push di money abroad, then use am buy house, car and other fine-fine things.”
He warn say Nigerians need to open eye because di Yahoo Yahoo matter don pass laptop and white lies. Na serious criminal network e don turn to.
“No just see dem as small Yahoo boys again. Dem don turn instrument for big men hand. When dem steal billions, dem pass am through these boys like say dem be bureau de change,” he talk.
Olukoyede also vex say plenty young people now no dey value education again as dem dey run enter hotel and street hustle to do fraud.
But EFCC no dey back down. Di chairman talk say for 2024 alone, dem recover over ₦365.4 billion and secure 4,111 convictions. E promise say EFCC go continue to work with integrity and discipline to clean di system.
