Nigeria Don Prepare 1,400 Health Centres to Treat Eye Problems

Federal Government don make over 1,400 primary health care centres for across Nigeria ready to provide basic eye treatment and help prevent people from going blind when dem fit prevent am.

Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, na im disclose this news on Thursday for Abuja during one event to mark 2026 World Sight Day.

Salako, wey Director of E-Health Division, Doris Afam-Aneke, represent, talk say government don also train over 3,000 health workers for 16 states to dey provide eye treatment for people for their communities.

Im talk say, “One major part of our plan to protect people eye na to make basic eye care services dey available for primary health centres across the country and expand am reach more places.”

Im add say government don distribute over 1.5 million pairs of prescription glasses for 16 states through the Jigi-Bola 2.0 programme.

Government dey prepare to extend the programme reach another 10 states.

Salako also talk say dem don check the eyes of over 1.5 million school children to know whether dem get any vision problem.

Im add say dem dey set up four new centres wey people fit go check and treat their eye problems for Enugu, Edo, Sokoto and Nasarawa states.

Im announce say government plan to carry out 25,000 free cataract operations across Nigeria before the end of 2027.
