Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit (Taskforce) don arrest 50 people wey dem suspect say be hoodlums during one statewide sanitation exercise wey dem do to make environment better and clean.
Chairman of the agency, Adetayo Akerele, talk dis one for statement wey their spokesperson, Abdulraheem Gbadeyan, release on Sunday.
According to Akerele, di operation cover many areas wey dem don mark as places wey people dey break environmental law, like Ikeja, Iyana-Ipaja, Abule Egba, Agege, Iyana Oworo, Lagos Island, Lekki–Ajah Expressway, Ijora Causeway, Ijora Underbridge and Iddo.
Eim talk say even though many people follow di rule wey stop motor movement and business activities during di sanitation, some residents no fully join di clean-up exercise.
For another development, di taskforce still arrest another 50 people for Lekki–Epe area because dem dey cause trouble and disturb public peace during di sanitation time.
Akerele talk say some of di suspects dey do things wey fit damage public property like billboards and road signs. Eim add say all of them go face court.
Dis monthly sanitation na part of effort by Lagos State government to fight dirty environment, like anyhow dumping of refuse, open defecation, street trading and other environmental offences.
Akerele still remind people say anybody wey break di law go face punishment according to Lagos Environmental Protection Law of 2017. E say make di enforcement continue and make people cooperate so Lagos go dey clean and safe.
Eim still advise residents, especially youths, make dem stop street football during sanitation hours and instead join to clean their environment.
Di chairman still confirm say government no dey tolerate environmental offences at all, and say na only when people dey obey di rules well-well Lagos go better to live in.
