IGP Disu Restructure Police Tactical Units Nationwide

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, don clarify say no be true say him order make all tactical police units across Nigeria disband immediately.

According to DCP Anthony Okon Placid, Force Public Relations Officer, the IGP only direct make the number of tactical units reduce to better control them.

“Zonal and State Command levels go get maximum five teams, Area Command and Divisional units go get three,” he said.

DCP Okon Placid explain say the restructuring fit include merging or disbanding some teams, but State government-created squads like Lagos Rapid Response Squad, Oyo SRS, and Bayelsa Operation DOO-AKPOR no dey affected.

The IGP don take the step to make tactical teams better supervised, free more officers for normal police stations, and reduce complaints from the public about misconduct.

“The IGP value the work wey tactical teams dey do for crime fighting, but too many units dey drain manpower and fit bring wahala for the Force,” DCP Okon Placid added.

The directive follows concerns about human rights abuses and other complaints against some poorly supervised tactical squads.

IGP Disu, wey don serves as commander for different states, emphasize say accountability and people-friendly policing remain priority for him administration.

The police say further instructions go follow as the restructuring dey rolled out.
