Government don talk say people wey dey do public transport go get first priority for the 30-day petrol discount wey dem announce. Na part of government plan be this to reduce the cost of transport and the money wey families dey spend for everyday needs.
Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, announce this plan for Abuja on Thursday. Im talk say government go sell petrol wey Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) supply at the price wey e cost dem for the first 30 days.
Oyedele talk say, “We dey give discount on petrol wey NNPC Limited dey sell for the next 30 days, as first step. We go first consider people wey dey do public transport across Nigeria.”
Government dey also negotiate to put limit of ₦1,350 per litre on the cost of petrol before e reach filling stations.
The plan na to prevent sudden increase for fuel price whenever global crude oil price or foreign exchange rate change sharply.
Oyedele explain say this limit no mean say petrol go sell for ₦1,350 per litre for filling stations.
Instead, petrol refiners and importers go first pay any extra cost wey pass the limit. Dem go later collect back the difference when market condition improve.
The minister talk say government introduce these measures because the previous efforts no reduce the effect of high fuel and transport costs on families and businesses enough.
Im add say dem go review the proposed cost limit every month and publish the figures to make everything clear for Nigerians.
According to government, this arrangement no mean say dem don bring fuel subsidy back, and e no be price control. Na plan wey dem wan use to prevent sudden changes for fuel price and make the cost of petrol more predictable.
