Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) don direct all shipping companies, agents, and terminal operators for Nigerian ports make dem stop any increase or review of shipping charges until dem hold proper talks with stakeholders.
NSC talk say even though some recent tariff changes don get approval under the Council statutory mandate, those approvals follow correct and transparent regulatory process wey include technical and consultative assessments.
“The engagements no mean automatic approval; na part of broader evaluation process dem dey do,” the Council talk, adding say final decisions dey based on evidence, regulatory benchmarks, and economic conditions.
Dr. Pius Akutah, Executive Secretary of NSC, warn say any service providers wey go increase charges without proper stakeholder consultation go face “decisive regulatory action,” including sanctions under NSC enforcement powers.
Dr. Akutah talk say, “Nigerian Shippers’ Council dey committed to protect interest of port users, promote fair competition, and make business environment for maritime industry dey balanced and predictable.”
The Council also emphasize say transparency, fairness, and stakeholder participation na the main principles wey dey guide port economic regulation for Nigeria, and dem go act sharply against any wahala wey unauthorized charge hikes fit cause for port operations.
