Minister of Works don tell lawmakers say the ministry’s 2026 capital plan go focus on finishing big road projects and four “legacy” schemes wey presidency start.
For budget defence, the minister talk say the proposal na ₦3.244 trillion. He explain say dem inherit 2,064 projects from 2023, and about 70% of 2025 work still dey carry enter 2026.
He show figures wey prove say money tight: only ₦210.3 billion don release for 2025 — na just 9.7% of wetin dem expect. Contractors dey owed about ₦2.2 trillion for work wey dem don already do.
Minister yarn say government don re-scope projects because cost don rise after fuel subsidy removal and naira float. He list legacy roads like Lagos–Calabar coastal highway and Sokoto–Badagry corridor, promise say some sections go commission by May 29, 2026.
He add say new phases go dey funded step by step so projects fit finish on time.
