Petrol marketers don reject Federal Government plan to put limit for petrol supply cost at ₦1,350 per litre. Dem talk say make government allow competition for market and improve how dem dey distribute fuel, because na better way to tackle di increase for petrol price.

Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN) don talk say if government force petrol price make e no pass certain amount, e no go solve di problems wey dey affect petroleum market.

For summary of dia third-quarter media engagement wey dem hold online on Thursday with S&P Global Energy, MEMAN talk say, “Na no be government wey go just set price anyhow go solve di problems wey dey petroleum market.”

Dem add say instead of government to interfere with market price, make dem focus on how to make price fair and transparent, improve fuel distribution, solve problems wey dey delay fuel supply and reduce di cost of running business.

Dis statement come after Finance Minister, Taiwo Oyedele, announce say Federal Government dey negotiate to make petrol supply cost no pass ₦1,350 per litre for ex-gantry or landing cost.

Under di plan, refineries and importers go first pay any cost wey pass di ₦1,350 limit, then dem go recover di money later when market condition don better.

Government talk say dem go review di arrangement every month to help reduce sudden changes for petrol price.

Oyedele explain say di arrangement no be subsidy or price control, but na way to make petrol price stable.

Government bring dis proposal after petrol price increase because of wahala wey dey happen for international oil market.

Government also announce 30-day petrol discount for Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) filling stations, with priority for public transport operators.

MEMAN call on government to make fuel supply agreements clearer, improve storage and transportation arrangements, and make information about market price and supply easier to access.

Di association also advise government to give priority to petrol from refineries wey dey inside Nigeria, while allowing importers to bring in fuel whenever local supply no reach.

MEMAN maintain say if petrol price dey predictable, fuel supply chain dey work well and businesses dey compete fairly, e go help make fuel dey available and protect consumers without government forcing price on marketers.

Dis argument show di challenge wey government dey face to reduce petrol cost while still allowing refineries, importers and marketers to run dia businesses without suffering loss.
