Dr. Bassey Icha, wey be JOHESU chairman for Cross River State, talk dis one on Tuesday for Calabar as e yarn with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). According to am, di long matter between di union and government still never settle well, even though dem suspend di strike recently.

JOHESU suspend dia 84-day strike early February after federal government beg make dem give dem time to work on dia demands, especially di review of Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS).

Di union start di strike for November 2025 because government don delay for years to review salary of non-doctor health workers.

Icha explain say JOHESU no dey ask make dia pay equal doctors’ own, but dem want fair adjustment based on government salary template.

E still talk say plenty Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) wey government and union sign since 2014 never fully implement, and one important memo for CONHESS wey dem sign for 2021 still dey with National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission.

According to am, JOHESU agree suspend di strike because government promise say by April, dem go approve committee recommendations on di salary adjustment.

“ If nothing positive happen by di end of April, JOHESU go get no choice but to return to industrial action,” Icha talk.

JOHESU represent thousands of health workers across Nigeria, including laboratory scientists, pharmacists, and other allied health professionals.

Di threat of another strike come at a time wey public hospitals still dey struggle to return to full operation after months of disruption.
