Parents of 20 pipo wey kidnap their children as dem dey go NYSC camp for Imo State don talk say dem pay millions of naira as ransom before dem free their children. But security agencies talk say na operation dem carry out free the victims.
Parents don talk say some families pay ₦3 million, while some other families gather reach ₦6 million after kidnappers threaten say dem go kill their children.
Dem kidnap the victims on October 1 as dem dey travel from Ibadan, Oyo State, go NYSC orientation camps for Abia and Akwa Ibom states.
Dem release the victims on October 7 after dem spend six days for kidnappers’ hand.
One mama tell reporters say e no easy for am to raise the money wey the kidnappers demand.
“I pay reach ₦3 million as ransom because I dey hope say nothing go happen to my pikin.
“I waka up and down to find the money.
“Na finally I get the money, come send person go deliver the ransom give dem directly,” na wetin the woman talk be that.
Papa of another victim talk say im family borrow money to gather ₦6 million.
“We gather for one place for Ibadan, Oyo State, to put the money together.
“Some of us even change the money to dollars, send am go Imo State make dem give the person wey come collect am,” na im be the man talk.
“I happy say my son dey come back.
“But how I wan take pay back the ₦6 million wey I borrow?
“Na farmer I be,” im talk.
Another parent talk say the kidnappers first demand ₦50 million for each person wey dem kidnap before the families beg dem make dem reduce the money.
But Imo State Commissioner of Police, Audu Bosso, talk say im no know anything about ransom payment.
Im give security agencies credit for the release of the victims, say the pressure wey dem put on the kidnappers make dem release the people.
Bosso talk say, “The security agencies continue to put pressure on the kidnappers, and na finally this pressure make dem release the victims.”
Police talk say na joint operation wey police, military, Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies carry out lead to the rescue.
After dem rescue the victims, dem take dem go hospital make doctors check dem.
Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, sef praise the security agencies for working together. Im talk say government no reveal some details about wetin dem do because dem wan protect the people wey kidnappers hold.
The different stories don raise questions about wetin really make the kidnappers release the victims and whether the families pay ransom.
Nobody don independently confirm the families’ claims, and government and security agencies never publicly confirm say anybody pay ransom.
