Two Afrobeats songs by Nigerian artistes Olamide and Burna Boy have made former U.S. President Barack Obama’s 2025 favourite music playlist.

The 30-track list, released annually by Obama, celebrates songs that shaped his listening year and has become a notable marker of international musical influence. Afrobeats featured prominently, underscoring the genre’s expanding global footprint.

Leading the Nigerian entries is Olamide with “99,” a high-energy Afropop collaboration that brings together Asake, Seyi Vibez, Young Jonn and British singer Daecolm. Released in June 2025 as part of Olamide’s self-titled album, the track stood out for its vibrant sound and celebration of success.

Also recognised is Burna Boy, whose “TaTaTa,” featuring American rapper Travis Scott, made the list. The song appears on Burna Boy’s eighth studio album, No Sign of Weakness, and blends Afro-fusion with trap elements, highlighting the Grammy winner’s continued crossover appeal.

Further strengthening Nigeria’s presence is Obongjayar, whose song “Not In Surrender” was selected. The London-based Nigerian artist is acclaimed for a genre-defying style that fuses soul, jazz and electronic influences.

Obama, announcing the playlist on social media, described it as a tradition he began while in the White House, encouraging listeners to explore new sounds and share recommendations.

In recent years, the former president’s playlists have consistently spotlighted Nigerian talent, including Rema and Asake in 2024.
