President Bola Ahmed Tinubu don throw him weight behind Lagos Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, as consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 governorship election.
The development first surface through report by Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and later confirmed by multiple sources.
The decision follow endorsement by the party Governance Advisory Council (GAC) during one closed-door meeting for Lagos House, Marina. GAC leader, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, announce the adoption, say the move go help unite the party and avoid internal fight.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, also support the decision, describe Hamzat as “well-baked” and ready to lead, as dem raise him hand after the announcement.
Hamzat, wey don serve as deputy governor since 2019, get strong backing from different APC blocs, including party leaders and lawmakers.
