Senate Don Give NAFDAC Final Deadline To Stop Sachet Alcohol

Senate don tell di National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) make dem no shake body again — make dem carry go ahead with di ban wey go stop strong alcohol drink we dem dey sell inside sachet, starting from December 2025.

Di lawmakers talk say dis one na di final deadline — no more extra time go dey after di grace period wey don dey now.

Dis decision come after Senator Asuquo Ekpeyong raise one motion wey talk say Senate suppose stop any plan wey wan shift di ban again.

E remind dem say since 2018, NAFDAC don already agree with people wey dey inside di drink business say dem go gradually stop di production and selling of alcohol wey dey inside sachet. Dem reason be say di thing don turn health and social wahala.

Senator Ekpeyong talk say di major worry be how di cheap sachet drink don easy to reach children, young people and even commercial drivers wey dey abuse am.

E still yarn say government don already give manufacturers extra one-year grace period for 2024 make dem use clear old stock and change to better packaging.

But e say di new calls wey some companies dey make for another delay go only make regulation weak and put people life for risk.

With dis Senate decision, dem don give full support to NAFDAC plan to end sachet alcohol by December 2025 — to help reduce bad drinking habits and protect people wey dey most vulnerable.
