For statement wey dem release on Sunday, Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Okoye Henry, talk say di ban necessary to stop injuries, fire and other avoidable wahala wey dey always follow people using fireworks anyhow during festive season.

Imo State Police Command don put total ban on selling, sharing, and using fireworks, firecrackers and any kain pyrotechnics across di state as Christmas and New Year dey near.

For statement wey dem release on Sunday, Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Okoye Henry, talk say di ban necessary to stop injuries, fire incidents, and other avoidable wahala wey dey always happen when people use fireworks anyhow during festive period.

Di Command warn say anybody wey dem catch dey sell, hold, or explode any pyrotechnics — whether for public event, community gathering or private celebration, dem go arrest am and prosecute am. Dem don also order operatives make dem increase patrol to make sure people obey well.

Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, beg residents, traders and event organisers make dem follow di directive strictly and report any illegal sale or use of fireworks to di nearest police station.

E assure Imo people say strong security arrangements don dey ground to make sure Christmas period go peaceful, and personnel don full everywhere to protect lives and property throughout di festivities.

Di Command still appreciate members of di public for their steady cooperation to keep peace and security across di state.

Plateau State Police Command give similar announcement on Saturday. For statement wey their spokesperson, SP Alfred Alabo, sign, di Command talk say dem bring di ban “for public safety and security” as people dey prepare for festive period.

According to Plateau Command, fireworks dey always cause unnecessary fear and disturb public peace. “Use of knockouts and fireworks don dey create unnecessary panic,” di statement talk.

Police warn say anybody wey dem catch dey break di order by selling, using, or holding fireworks go get arrested and prosecuted according to di law.

Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, beg parents, guardians, and religious leaders make dem warn their children and congregation, as public cooperation go help ensure “peaceful and safe environment for all before, during, and after di festive season.”

Both Commands confirm say dem serious about securing Yuletide season, and dem note say similar bans don dey enforce for plenty states during 2024 festive period to reduce crime and maintain order.
