Oyedele Tell Government Agencies Make Dem Reduce Fees and Wahala for Businesses

Federal Government don start another round of reforms to make ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) dey work better, make their services dey predictable, and make dem respond faster to the needs of businesses and investors.

Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, announce the plan on Thursday for one meeting with heads of government ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) and senior officials for the Federal Ministry of Finance headquarters for Abuja.

Oyedele talk say the next stage of economic reforms no suppose stop for making the economy stable. E suppose also make things easier for businesses wey dey deal with government every day.

Im talk say government agencies must do only the work wey the law give dem authority to do. Dem must stop to demand the same documents, collect overlapping fees or make people pass through unnecessary processes.

Under the new plan, all government agencies must work together as “One Government” instead of pushing their responsibilities give people wey apply for their services.

Where two or more agencies dey handle the same matter, the aim na to get one main agency, one process and one fee. Government go also review rules and requirements wey no necessary.

The minister also direct the agencies to discuss with people wey the new policies go affect, check how much the policies fit cost businesses, work together with other government agencies and give people enough notice before dem introduce major policy or change any regulation.

For government money matters, Oyedele talk say all money wey government suppose collect by law must enter government account complete and on time.

Any extra money wey government agencies get after dem don pay their running costs must enter the Consolidated Revenue Fund. Dem must also submit their audited accounts as the law require.

From now on, government agencies no go only receive assessment based on how much money dem generate. Dem go also check how fast dem provide services, whether dem follow their published deadlines and whether dem help reduce the cost of running businesses.

The Ministry of Finance go review the reports wey the agencies submit and give dem specific feedback within four to six weeks.

After that, government go share the draft plan with stakeholders make dem contribute their ideas. Each agency go also agree on clear targets wey dem fit measure, and government go review the progress from time to time.

Oyedele talk say the new plan also concern the Ministry of Finance itself. The ministry must address delays and problems like slow approvals, late release of funds and old laws wey no follow current realities.

The meeting show government plan to build institutions wey go help businesses invest, expand and create more jobs, while making government agencies more accountable for how dem do their work.
