According to National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Nigeria inflation rate don drop to 14.63% for September 2026, from 15.39% wey e be for August. Na the third month wey inflation rate dey drop one after the other.
NBS talk dis one on Thursday for im Consumer Price Index report for September. Di report show say di rate wey prices of goods and services dey increase don slow down more.
According to NBS, headline inflation don drop by 0.76 percentage points from di 15.39% wey e reach for August.
Di rate still drop from 20.98% wey dem record for September 2025. Dis one mean say inflation don reduce by 6.35 percentage points compared to di same time last year.
Di report show say month-to-month headline inflation drop to 0.06% for September from 0.71% wey e be for August. Dis one show say average prices no increase as fast as dem increase before.
NBS explain say di change mean say di average price of goods and services increase more slowly compared to di previous month.
Di bureau talk say: “For September 2026, headline inflation rate na 14.63%, compared to 15.39% for August 2026. For September 2025, di rate na 20.98%.”
But di figures wey dem give for food inflation get small wahala.
Di report talk say food inflation na 19.59% for September, compared to 19.57% for August.
If na so di figures be, e mean say food inflation actually increase by 0.02 percentage points, instead of dropping as di report claim.
Di NBS figures show say even though headline inflation dey reduce, food prices still be something wey people need to watch closely because e dey affect how much money families dey spend and di cost of living.
Di September figures give us idea of how inflation dey go. But make una understand dis one: when inflation rate drop, e no automatically mean say prices of things don come down. E simply mean say prices still dey increase, but dem no dey increase as fast as before.
