National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) don begin full enforcement to stop production and sale of alcohol for sachet and small PET bottles wey dey below 200ml.

NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, yarn this one for media briefing on Thursday. She say di agency start action after Senate give dem order to move ahead.

“We don already start enforcement to ban alcohol for sachet and bottles below 200ml after Senate direct us to proceed,” she talk.

Dis ban don cause plenty argument for months. Lawmakers don earlier set December 2025 deadline, say di move go help protect children and young people from cheap alcohol wey easy to hide and get strong effect.

But for mid-December, Federal Government pause di enforcement small make dem review di policy, especially because of ‘Detty December’ period, as consultations still dey go on.

NAFDAC and health officials say di ban na to reduce alcohol abuse and protect public health. Dem don warn manufacturers and sellers say punishment go follow anybody wey no comply, and beg Nigerians make dem report illegal sales.

Some industry groups don complain, say di ban go affect small producers and traders, and ask for more time.

NAFDAC say dem go work with other government agencies on public awareness, inspections and enforcement as dem dey remove sachet alcohol and small-bottle drinks from di market.

Investigations and enforcement still dey go on nationwide.
