Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) don register two new political parties, wey make total number of registered parties for Nigeria reach 21.

INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, announce this one on Wednesday during the commission quarterly consultative meeting with leaders of political parties for Abuja.

According to am, the two newly registered parties na Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Amupitan explain say out of 171 groups wey apply for registration, na only DLA fully meet all the constitutional and legal requirements. As for NDC, e say INEC register the party based on court order.

E talk say INEC receive 171 letters of intent from different associations wey wan register as political parties, and dem assess dem according to the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Electoral Act 2022, and INEC Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties.

“After careful consideration, na only Democratic Leadership Alliance comply fully with the law, and we register am with effect from February 5,” Amupitan talk.

E also add say Federal High Court for Lokoja order INEC make dem register Nigeria Democratic Congress, and the commission comply with the ruling.

“Certificates of registration go issue to the two parties in due course,” e add.

However, the INEC chairman raise concern over increasing internal crisis and leadership wahala inside political parties. E warn say frequent court cases dey reduce public trust and dey distract INEC from its main work.

“These internal fights dey create uncertainty, weaken confidence in the political system, and put unnecessary pressure on the judiciary,” he talk.

Amupitan urge party leaders make dem choose dialogue, unity and transparent leadership, stressing say strong internal cooperation na key to protect and sustain Nigeria democratic process.
